Sometimes your gut gets there first. We pay attention when it does.
STUDIO NOTE / 02
How we think about the work.

Sometimes instinct reaches the answer first. Before the strategy is written or the reasoning is polished, a direction feels right or wrong. We pay attention to that feeling, in our client work and in how we run the studio.
Overthinking
Brand work invites overthinking. In the hunt for a competitive edge, a clear differentiator, or a story no one else can claim, it’s easy to analyze a decision until it stalls. Many times, the answer is right there, if you’re willing to trust it.
Instinct, then depth
We treat a gut reaction as a starting point. We say it out loud, then do the work to explain it, test it, and write it down.
Instinct alone can’t carry a brand. A firm needs reasons it can give in a shortlist interview, explain to leadership, and teach to new hires. When a concept feels right, we work out why. Maybe it matches how the principals speak, or it echoes the firm’s design philosophy.
Once we can name the reason, we build the identity, the messaging, and the website from that one true idea about the people and the work. A great brand doesn’t need to be more complicated than that.
How instinct shaped Box Crib
Box Crib started with a gut call. Nick Hoag and Chris Jasinski became partners after a long run of small moments that all pointed the same way. When the time came for each of them to decide what was next, they decided to do it together.
When you know, you know.
